Term 1
Welcome to Year 2! We are looking forward to getting to know each other this term and are excited for the year ahead.
In English, we will begin the term by learning about traditional tales. We will be exploring and comparing alternative versions of traditional tales, including Little Red and Hansel and Gretel, both by Bethan Woollvin. We will write character descriptions as well as our own versions of traditional tales, developing our learning of sentence structure, spelling and punctuation.
Our maths learning will begin with focusing on place value. We will be partitioning numbers to 100, using number lines, comparing and ordering numbers, then moving on to addition and subtraction.
Term 1's whole school theme is "Community". In PSHE, we will be talking about how to stay safe, and who can help us in the community. Science this term will be focused on habitats. You may hear us singing some catchy songs about the 7 continents and 5 oceans, which we will be singing in geography lessons! We will also be learning about the countries that make up the United Kingdom.
Forest school, art and P.E. this term will be on a Tuesday.
Home Learning
Please continue to read at home daily and record this in your child's reading record. Books will be changed every Friday.
Please practise times tables on TT Rockstars regularly, as well as spelling practise on EdShed.
